Inlet Historical Society Presents “Memories of an Inlet Ranger” By Gary Lee

On Saturday evening September 17, at 7 PM at the Inlet Town Hall, the Inlet Historical Society presents what promises to be an informative and interesting discussion by Gary Lee about his reminiscences of his DEC career as the forest ranger for the region covering the Moose River Recreation Area and part of the West Canada Lakes area. Mr. Lee lived from 1966 to 1999 in a camp located near the Limekiln Lake entrance to the recreation area.

Among the topics Mr. Lee will present are his memories about missing persons, forest fires, drownings, land ownership, camp leases and other issues he addressed during this career.

Now a licensed guide, Gary Lee is known for his knowledge of plants and wildlife (especially loons and butterflies), bird identification, photography and his experiences as a trapper. He is a long time Board member of the Arts Center of Old Forge (View) and was a member of the Adirondack Museum’s Grounds and Garden Group for five years. His photography has been published in Adirondack Life twice and received the 1991 Conservationist of the Year by the N.Y.S Conservation Council. Anyone who was part of his railroad ECO tours could not fail to be impressed with his knowledge of the sights and sounds of the forest and lakes.

The public is invited and members can use this opportunity to renew their membership. Those who wish to support the Society further can also pick up a membership form during the course of the evening. If you have any questions, please call the Inlet Tourism Office at 315-357-5501.
